Simple Gallery is the complete photo gallery add-on.

The add-on allows photo(s) to be uploaded, thumbnailed and browsed. Advanced functionality includes approval of photo(s), albums, bulk upload, search integration, tags and syndication via RSS.

The key to the add-on is "Simplicity", a key differentiator between this add-on and similar photo add-ons available. We have tried to make this add-on function very similar to other core add-ons such as "Links", "Announcements" and "Documents".

These screens show a series of actions depicting the user navigating albums & photo(s).

1.) Album View

The albums you have configured are shown in the default view of your module. You can click on an album to see the list of photos held within.

2.) Photo View

A list of photos in each album is displayed, if the photo exceeds the page size configured in your admin options, these photo(s) will be paged. Breadcrumbs provide a trail back to the album view.

3.) Slideshow

When you click on a photo a popup window is displayed allowing you to see each photo at full size (or the configured size you have specified in admin options). Options to page through photo(s) are provided.

4.) RSS Syndication

If you click any of the XML icons, a neatly formatted page is provided instructing the user on how to use the RSS feed.

This screen shows a series of screenshots depicting the workflow for adding photos to your portal.

1.) The Default Screen

The screen below shows an instance of simple gallery that has already been added to a page. It currently has 1 album (find out how to add albums here) and some photos. The album is called “Superhero’s” and contains 4 photos.

Note: The “XML” images you can see linked to syndication feeds that allow other sites to consume your content.

2.) Adding a Photo

Let’s now add a new photo to our album. To add a photo, we select the “Add New Photo” option available in the pull down menu or via the link in the upper right hand corner.

Note: These options are only available to those users with sufficient access. Find out more about the security model here.

3.) Add New Photo Form (Single Photo)

This form allows you to upload a new photo through the form provided. Two options exist, either a Single Photo or a Bulk Upload (e.g. a zip file).

The screenshot below shows the “Single Photo” mode that requires the album, a name, description (optional) and a singular photo (jpg, gif, png). We’ll fill in this information and upload a photo of wonder woman to join our collection of Superhero’s. Once we are done, we click update.

The screenshot below shows that wonder woman now belongs to our album.

4.) Add New Photo Form (Bulk)

The bulk photo upload option allows you to upload multiple photos at once. If you have a zip file, you can upload the archive directly to your website in one action (as shown in the screenshot below).

Our archive in this case had 2 additional photos that have been extracted into our Superhero’s album as shown below.

5.) Edit/Delete Photo(s)

To edit or delete a photo, it is simple as clicking the “edit pencil” next to each photo and selecting the corresponding command button on the edit screen (as shown below).

1.) Editing Albums

Albums are easily managed within simple gallery, they can have an unlimited hierarchy. To edit albums, use the hover menu as shown below.

2.) Album List

You will be presented with a list of albums as shown below.

3.) Edit Album Form

You may add or edit an album by clicking their respective links. A form similar to the one displayed below will appear, allowing you to customise the parent album, caption, description, public flag and even the folder where photo(s) are stored.

1.) Configuration Options

A comprehensive list of configuration options are available including security settings, photo resize, borders styles, paging, etc. To change configuration options, select the view options link as shown below.

The complete list of options is shown below.

1.) Photo Moderation

When photo moderation has been enabled (available via configuration), users belonging to those roles have the "Add New Photo" option visible (explained here)  to upload photo(s). Once a photo has been enabled, it must progress through a photo moderation process.

Once the photo has been submitted, approvers are notified and additional link appears on their screen providing access to the approve photo screen (shown below).

If the link is clicked, an approval screen is shown, as shown below.

Approvers can approve or reject and provide an additional message to the submitter. The status of the photo will be emailed back to the original submitter. Once approved, it appears in the designated album.
